Obama Clenches the Democratic Nomination
Obama, the 1st ever African American to win the race towards American leadership. On Tuesday, June 3, it had been confirmed that Obama is the candidate from Democratic Party to run for the presidential elections that is due in November.
He started his life from Honolulu, Hawaii in August 8, 1961 as the son of a Kenyan father and an American mother. Obama spent a few years of his life in Indonesia in 1960s which he remembered in a memoir as “bounty of a young man’s life”. He graduated in 1983 from Columbia and pursued his studies in law under Harvard School of Law. In 2004, he became the senator of Illinois and now he has emerged as the historic candidate of election for USA president.
Obama is already being called to be the man to create history. His win over candidate race itself is a history as everybody knows he is the first black to be nominated as a candidate to acquire presidency.
The journey that started exactly before 6 months on January 3 from Iowa caucus is now standing at the point of precipice, from where only one will head towards the actual victory; and the man is none but Senator Barack Obama. As amazing as Obama’s victory is, it is more astounding because it came at the expense of Hillary Clinton who was backed by the Democratic Party establishment. Obama, a first term senator who was literally unknown on the national stage even 4 years ago, defeated ever popular Clinton, the former first lady and one time “inevitable nominee” in 17 month marathon for the Democratic nomination.
According to the Associated Press count, super delegates pushed Obama over the 2118 delegate hump even before the result of last two primaries of Democratic contests in South Dakota and Montana became known. On winning tally he was far ahead of Clinton.
He started the campaign on the theme of change. Short and simple as his theme goes, is also very meaningful when thought about from a broader perspective. At this era when America’s image to the whole world is nothing but a commercial demon, this candidate has shown his care about world opinion and also promised to abandon the arrogance and high handed unilateralism. His specific pledge of bringing end to the US occupation of Iraq has certainly brought a breath of fresh air.
Obama drew huge attention from blacks, and from more of the younger, more liberal and wealthier voters throughout the USA. Whereas the downscale voters. And women preferred Clinton.
Obama in his electrifying winning speech highly acknowledged Hillary and Bill Clinton saying “Senator Hillary has made history in this campaign, not just because she is a woman who has done what no woman has done before, but because she is a leader who inspired millions of Americans with her strength, her courage, and her commitment to causes that has brought us here tonight”.
Obama has now only a few days to catch his breath before starting the ultimate campaign for presidential election. With the tremendous popularity bestowed on him, what Obama now need is support from the Clinton’s fleet of white working class voters, women and Hispanic voters. As well as if the US economy remains as bleak as it is now and the war in Iraq remains as unpopular as it is now and no new complication pops up out of the blue then the man we are all looking at now will be the first African-American president.
